Electro Bus Service Launched in Dera Ghazi Khan – South Punjab’s First Modern Transport

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday inaugurated the first-ever electro bus service in Dera Ghazi Khan, marking a historic milestone for public transport in South Punjab.

Routes Announced in First Phase
The new service is currently running on five major routes, including General Bus Stand to Kot Chutta, DG Khan city loop, Choti Zareen, Sakhi Sarwar, and Shah Din Saddar.

Speaking at the launch, CM Maryam Nawaz said the government is committed to providing safe, affordable, and modern commuting facilities for all citizens, particularly students and working women.
A Relief for Commuters
Residents of DG Khan have long relied on vans and wagons for daily transport. The new buses are expected to provide much-needed relief by offering structured schedules, affordable fares, and reliable facilities.
Students commuting to colleges and universities, in particular, are seen as major beneficiaries of the service. The government hopes the service will also reduce overcharging by private transport operators.
Government’s Development Vision
Maryam Nawaz personally traveled on one of the buses after the inauguration, where citizens welcomed her with flowers and banners. She described the initiative as a symbol of progress for South Punjab, pledging that billions of rupees would be spent in the region to ensure equal development without political discrimination.
The chief minister also announced full compensation for families affected by recent floods, ruling out reliance on foreign aid for rehabilitation efforts.
Environmental and Economic Impact
Officials said the new service will help cut air pollution by reducing reliance on diesel buses. DG Khan, which often faces climate and flood challenges, will particularly benefit from eco-friendly transport solutions.
The project is also expected to generate employment opportunities for drivers, technicians, and support staff, while small businesses near bus stops may see an increase in activity.
